We have 500 students from 23 towns and enroll grades 9-12. As a school of choice, Windham Technical High School draws from 23 different communities in Eastern Connecticut. We offer 9 career-directed, trade technologies: Automotive, Carpentry, Criminal Justice and Protective Services, Culinary Arts, Electrical, Health Technology, HVAC, Information Systems Technology, and Manufacturing. LEARN MOREExplore Our Programs Automotive Technology Students in the Automotive Technology Program are given instruction in safety, tools and equipment, engine repair, electrical and electronic systems, brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, air conditioning, and driveline service. Learn More Carpentry The Carpentry program is organized around the fabrication and construction of residential housing and related remodeling. Production work is an essential part of the carpentry trade program experience. Construction agreements are made with customers to build, renovate, remodel or extend structures. Learn More Criminal Justice and Protective Services Criminal Justice and Protective Services provides students with the theoretical knowledge and skills for entry-level employment in the areas of criminal investigative techniques, crime scene investigation, advanced forensic techniques, fire science, scene management, scene safety and emergency medicine. Learn More Culinary Arts Culinary Arts program are trained in all phases of the food service industry. Students take the hands-on” approach with their training through the use of fully stocked and operational commercial kitchens to produce food in large quantities, as well as smaller scale kitchens that train students on casual and fine dining. Learn More Electrical Electrical prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power, and DC and AC motors, controls and electrical distribution panels. Learn More Health Technology Health Technology students are given instruction in health care safety, nutrition, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, and effective communication including medical terminology. Learn More Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program teaches construction safety, measuring and blueprint reading, calculations of ductwork and heating systems. Students are also instructed on domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, gas, and oil heating. Learn More Information Technology Students in the field of Information Technology are introduced to basic concepts of computer hardware and software. Instruction is provided in office productivity software, computer programming, web design and desktop publishing. Learn More Precision Machining Technology In Precision Machining Technology, students learn machine safety, measuring tools, and precision machining fundamentals using manual milling machines, lathes, and other metal processing machines. Students’ progress using computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining and turning centers. Learn More Student Workforce Student Workforce Work-Based Learning (WBL) allows a student to work for an employer during their trade instructional time. Students not only receive credit toward their career technology, but also get paid. Off-Campus Construction Projects CTECS has the unique ability to complete construction jobs off-campus, on both residential homes and commercial properties. Have a great Monday! #mightytigers ... 29 0 windhamtech View May 6 Open Windham Teacher Named Connecticut Technical High Schools’ Teacher of the Year May 6, 2024; Hartford, CT – Dr. Rachel Riendeau, a General Education Department Head and Social Studies teacher at Windham Technical High School, located in Willimantic, CT, has been named the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) Teacher of the Year Interim Superintendent Dr. Justin Lowe announced today. Rachel’s unwavering dedication and profound grasp of the connection between academics and Career and Technical Education truly sets her apart,” said Dr. Justin Lowe. Rachel exemplifies excellence in teaching and serves as an inspiration for her CTECS colleagues and students alike. I am honored to recognize her as the 2024 CTECS Teacher of the Year.” Riendeau has worked for CTECS since August 2007 as a social studies instructor, teaching a variety of courses from Economics and Sociology to Law and World History. She was instrumental in the development and implementation Senior Portfolio curricula. In 2018, she joined the staff at Windham Technical High School where she was named General Education Department head. Riendeau regularly seeks out new opportunities for students including field experiences at museums throughout the state and involvement in local, state, and national scholarship opportunities, including annual participation in National History Day. Riendeau is also the founder and creator of CTECS’ first student-centered virtual reality lab; the structure of which will be a pilot for the state’s technical high schools. This...
